Visit safety and conduct rules
These rules keep Peekers safe, protect the people who own or live at a property, and keep every visit legal. They are part of our Terms of Service, and breaking them can get an account suspended.
Where you can go
- Stay in public areas, such as the sidewalk, the street and public paths, unless you have permission to go further.
- Go inside, or onto private land, only when the Seeker has arranged it with the owner, tenant or agent and says so in the request or chat, or when the person in charge lets you in.
- Never force entry, open a locked door or gate, climb a fence, or use a lockbox or access code you weren't given for this visit.
- Don't go onto roofs, into attics or crawl spaces, or anywhere that looks unsafe, even if you're asked to.
Leave it as you found it
- Look, photograph and film; don't touch. Don't operate appliances, valves, switches or breakers, and don't move belongings.
- Close anything you were allowed to open, and never take anything.
People and privacy
- Photograph the property, not people. Avoid capturing faces, and don't point your camera into neighbors' windows or yards.
- Don't record conversations. If people are talking nearby, stop filming or film somewhere else: in some states recording a conversation without everyone's consent is a crime.
- Occupied homes and rentals: tenants have rights. Go inside only when the tenant or landlord has arranged it, at the agreed time.
- If anyone asks you to leave, leave politely, then tell the Seeker in the chat.
Your safety comes first
- Visit in daylight when you can, and tell someone where you're going.
- Watch for traffic, dogs and other animals, broken steps and empty buildings.
- You can decline any request, and you can stop a visit and leave at any time. No visit is worth getting hurt.
If something happens
- In an emergency, call 911 first.
- If something is damaged or someone is hurt, take photos, write down what happened, and tell us as soon as you can (see Support). Let the Seeker know in the chat too.
- If anyone threatens or harasses you, use Report in the chat. We review every report within 24 hours.
For Seekers: what you can ask for
Ask for anything a visitor can see from public areas: the outside of the property, the street, the neighborhood, traffic and noise. For anything inside or on private land, arrange access with the owner, tenant or agent first and say so in your request.
Don't ask a Peeker to trespass, enter without permission, photograph or follow people, record conversations, or do anything unsafe. Peekers can decline requests like these, and you can be reported for them.
